Observe a kingdom turn to dust*

It's winter here. The wind whips up flurries of snow and we only venture out for
school holiday necessities like hot, sweet cafe treats, second hand magazines
and glue sticks. It's collage time!

Daisy calls a halt to the rather unsporting game of fairy hockey

May's elephant asks the delicate question "Who farted?"

Trent tackles the baffling rise of celebrity head on

Jane gives words* the upper hand, then populates the prairie with visions

Elaine asks "Where are you going?" and we find we are not on Earth

I attempt to make a father and daughter lemon squash

Many thanks to May for sparking the collage binge.
All the tiny magazine page offcuts have been swept away
along with the fleeting sleety snow and holidays
are over. Except in collages.

The Whoopiedoo experiment

On a recent family holiday we had quite a bit of fun with Rory's Story Cubes, an ingenious way of elasticising your brain, thinking on your feet and tickling your funny bone all at the same time. There was one symbol that seemed more open to interpretation than the others.

Was it a jewel pendant? A strange, blank-faced person or perhaps an insect waving his antennae? We called him the Whoopiedoo, a sort of wild card personified. In the end, we all made an attempt to capture him on paper.

This is him.

Little fish

The water was brilliant turquoise

I made blue bubbles that bumped into each other and floated away

My friend the pink starfish winked as I swam past

Green fingers of seaweed swayed in my wake

I will remember this moment forever

Recently, Daisy, May and I
decided to take up the challenge to draw something new
to each of us. They seemed to thrive outside their comfort zone,
and clearly I should be going to them for drawing lessons.
Until then I'll probably go back to not drawing horses in fish shops.
